VALUES

Union United Church is a community of Christian believers in the triune God who has answered the call of the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus in a confused and lost world. Those who become members of Union United Church join in our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ, who, through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit learn to become fully submitted followers, loving God and loving others as themselves.

OUR HISTORY

Union Church was organized in the fall of 1840 with its first pastor being a circuit rider traveling on horseback.  Services were held in members’ homes until a log building was built in 1843 near the north side of what is now Union Cemetery.  This building served as both a place of worship and a school.

In 1855 a new frame church was built across the road on the site of the present church.  This frame church was later moved to the southwest corner of the church property to serve as a home and still stands as a remodeled home there today.

In 1923 the present house of worship was built at a cost of $19,000. Over many years the congregation realized the need for additional space. In 1995 a Fellowship Center was added, which allowed space for additional classrooms, a larger kitchen, and an open area for activities, meals, and receptions.  In 2002 a beautiful, spacious parsonage was built southwest of the church.

The fall of 2006 marked the completion of the stained glass window restoration.  This project restored the windows and will preserve them for generations to come.

A longtime dream of the congregation became reality in 2011.  An outside shelter featuring a stone fireplace and chimney with a limestone cross was erected on the church grounds. The shelter provides a place for outdoor worship, weddings, picnics, and other activities.

Many lives have been touched and molded as the church has served the community for 179 years.  It is our prayer that Union will always be open to those who seek the love of Christ and fellowship with a caring congregation
